Saving Democracy: Get Out the Vote
August 2024

Dear Interfaith Partners,
As we step into August, our focus sharpens on one of the most vital responsibilities we hold as citizens: the act of voting. This month’s theme, “Saving Democracy: Get Out The Vote,” calls us to recognize the power and importance of our participation in the democratic process.
Our democracy is a living entity, sustained by the active involvement of its people. In recent times, we have seen democracy challenged by efforts to suppress voter participation, spread misinformation, and erode trust in the electoral process. These challenges make our mission clear: to protect and strengthen democracy by ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their right to vote. This month, we will be joining the UU Justice Ministry of California in promoting ways to engage in voting this season with a series of ways to get involved by offering you “31 Days of Saving Democracy: Get Out The Vote” via social media and our website.
We are committed to promoting civic engagement and voter education. Here are several ways you can contribute to this crucial effort:
- Ensure Voter Registration: Confirm that you and your community members are registered to vote. Assist those who may need help navigating the registration process.
- Volunteer Your Time: Participate in phone banking, canvassing, and other outreach efforts to inform and mobilize voters. Every conversation can inspire someone to take action.
- Educate and Inform: Stay up-to-date on the issues and candidates that will appear on the ballot. Share accurate and reliable information within your circles to counteract misinformation.
- Advocate for Voting Right: Support initiatives and policies that expand and protect voting access. Use your voice to stand against voter suppression and disenfranchisement.
Our many faiths teach us the value of justice, equity, and the inherent worthiness of every individual. These values are mirrored in the democratic ideal that every person’s vote should count equally. By ensuring broad and inclusive voter participation, we honor these principles and work towards a more just and equitable society.
As we engage in this work, let us remember that democracy is not a given; it is something we must continually strive to uphold and defend. Our collective efforts can safeguard the integrity of our elections and ensure that the will of the people is accurately represented.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment to this essential cause. Together, we can make a profound impact and help shape a future where democracy thrives and justice prevails.
In solidarity and faith,
Lisa Bailey
